au revoir simone at logan square auditorium

au revoir simone: stars

au revoir simone played a show at logan square auditorium in chicago
last thursday... the band is on tour from brooklyn. they consist of three
beautiful and talented ladies that get down with some keys, synth, bass,
guitar, and cymbals. all three girls share the spotlight for lead vocals.
their sound is upbeat, charming, and sincere. the venue is quite large,
and rather ornate, but the girls charmed the audience and this made for
a very awesome and intimate night of entertainment. after the show
they stayed to get to know the fans, taking pictures, signing autographs,
and conversing with the ones who chose to linger and meet the music
makers. listen to au revoir simone!

the king of pop has fallen

it is a very sad day for music.
the legendary, michael jackson, died today.
michael jackson's thriller was the first cassette tape i ever owned.
i put it in my pink monogrammed case, where it still remains.
wishing i could be home to open that up today.
may he rest in peace.

lemonheads at abbey pub

the lemonheads rolled into abbey pub last night like
true rock stars.  they arrived in their band van and piled out
with girls and instruments, not a minute too early.
they asked the fans who lingered outside in anticipation,
"how are you crazies doing tonight?  you ready for a good
rock and roll show?"... and yes, we were.
the lemonheads played loud and hard and the audience
was ever present, crowding the stage and singing along.
the lemonheads have been around for quite some time now,
and are in the process of recording another new album.
these boys love what they do, and their loyal fan base is not
complaining.  the band has only a few stops left on this tour,
but im sure they are tired if all of their performances have
been on par with last night's show at abbey pub.  thanks to
the lemonheads for rolling through chicago.  we were happy
to have you.  please come back again.

now, now every children at abbey pub

i went to abbey pub last night for lemonheads, and was
glad that i did not miss the opening act.  now, now every
children consists of a female lead guitar/vocals, keys, bass,
and a male drummer.  the band was very fitting of their name,
as all of them were very cute and petite... but their sound was
large and strong.  The vocals were eerily awesome and gave off a
new age yeah yeah yeahs type-vibe. the band is native to
minneapolis, but they will be touring until the beginning of
august, so check out now, now every children!

now, now every children: teeth

scents of crashing drums and creeping hums

cavashawn at metro

cavashawn played for this past weekend's mob fest at metro.
i went to school with the band at Miami University briefly,
before they dropped and fled to chicago to live the musical
dream.  They seem to be gathering quite a loyal fan base,
because the metro was packed on friday for their performance
at 8:15!  They play in chicago quite frequently, so if you missed
this show, it won't be their last.

art brut at schubas

check out more pictures of ART BRUT
from their show @ schubas.
i saw them live on 6/19... and it was a great time.
he sold out an entire week of shows at schubas,
so i obviously was not the only one that's been
crushing on this band.

the field and the juan maclean at double door!

for a rainy tuesday night i was quite pleasantly surprised to find a bitching
time at double door last night. the rain did not keep the juan maclean
fans from attending last night's show. the juan maclean brought their own
sound, photo, and lighting crew, which no one could complain about. the
show was flawless. the field warmed up the audience and by the time the
juan maclean entered every one had their dancing shoes on. this was
not an electronic show that relied on the good ole' macbook. they used
a plethora of different instruments... maracas, a theremin, tambourine,
guitar, synth, keys, drums... and i am sure that is not all. the lead
singer was enticing to the men and women alike with her sexy looks,
obvious talent, and rather bizarre futuristic onesie. the juan maclean
will be touring into september so anyone who missed out... you may
still have another opportunity.

bob schneider at double door!

bob schneider was amazing.  and he brought quite a crowd
of ladies to the show...  as a musician, i don't do a whole
lot of covers, but i do cover bob schneider's gold in the
sunset, so seeing that live was really an incredible experience.
i was caught off guard by his new looks, with his freshly
cut hair, but i dig it, i dug it. whatever.  awesome show!

jason shannon at double door

jason shannon put on a great show at double door 6/12.
they have been having a lot of fun touring with
bob schneider... their booking agent asked them for a
list of people they would like to open for and i think
they got pretty lucky with the final pick.  their show
was fun, the sound was great, and they even incorporated
a mullet wig and beer chugging competition into one
of their songs.  check out jason shannon!

kevin devine: just stay

i saw kevin devine at schubas (chicago) after miniature tigers, and was blown
away. ive never seen a singer-songwriter put on such a show. he had the
entire  audience dancing, grooving, and swaying to his songs. his energy was
undeniably contagious. the room was feeling nothing but love for
this young talented musician.
after his performance he stuck around to sign autographs and talk with
fans. my friend, former bassist for powerspace, asked him to write a
couplet, and he enthusiastically obliged, which we both thought was
pretty rocking. good luck on the rest of your tour kevin!
check out more kevin devine here!

miniature tigers: the wolf

the miniature tigers opened for kevine devine this past friday, 5/29
they put on an awesome show.
you can buy their new album, Tell it to the Volcano here.
They will be touring with Kevine Devine until June 7th, so try to catch them
both if they are coming to a location near you...
